This view is from the top of one of the four gun emplacements or casemates at the Longues sur Mer battery in Normandy, France. A view straight out to sea then slow pans inland showing the coastal artillery battery. Constructed by the German Navy in 1943 the battery, code name WN48, was armed with four 150 mm marine guns and was active during D-Day. 4K tripod shot. (Ref. Places 26)

Huge “weeping beech” tree – Bayeux botanical gardens, Normandy, France.

Planted over 140 years ago this huge weeping beech tree can be found in the public gardens at Bayeux, Normandy, France (Le jardin botanique de Bayeux). This very unusual tree is actually two different beech varieties grafted together. It stands over 17 meters high, with a diameter of over 40 meters and has to be supported with steel wire ropes attached to tall metal poles. It could be one of the widest trees in the world. (Ref.
